OSHA Overview
At Midwest Forklift Operator Training and Certification, safety is our highest priority. All of our training programs are fully compliant with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations, specifically standard 29 CFR 1910.178, which outlines the requirements for powered industrial truck operation. Forklifts are a vital part of many industries, but they also present significant risks when operated without proper training. Each year, OSHA reports over 7,000 nonfatal forklift-related injuries and more than 85 fatalities. Alarmingly, up to 70% of these incidents could be prevented through proper training and safety practices.
OSHA requires that all forklift operators be trained and certified through a combination of formal instruction, hands-on training, and a performance evaluation. Employers must re-evaluate operators at least once every three years, or sooner if unsafe practices are observed or if the work environment changes. Noncompliance can result in serious consequences, including costly fines that often exceed $14,000 per violation, workplace injuries, and legal liability.
Complying with OSHA standards is about more than just avoiding penalties — it’s about protecting lives, building a culture of accountability, and ensuring long-term success for businesses. Proper forklift certification reduces accidents, improves workplace efficiency, and demonstrates a company’s commitment to safety, professionalism, and legal responsibility. At Midwest Forklift, we take pride in preparing every operator with the knowledge and skills needed to work safely, confidently, and in full compliance with federal safety regulations.
